Elk – Baby Sign

Learn It

To do the baby sign for elk, put your thumb on the side of your head with your fingers stick up. Move your hands out from your head in a half circle. Then move them out from there in a half circle.

Remember It

The ASL sign for elk looks like the sign for deer but the antlers are bigger because elk are much bigger than deers.

Teach It

To teach your baby to sign elk, always do the sign while verbally saying the sign in a sentence.

Here’s your toy elk. – Hand your baby his toy.

Look an elk! – Point to the elk in the book or in the woods in Oregon.

Your shirt has an elk on it. – Point to the elk on the shirt.

Try to be consistent, so your baby will make the association between the sign and an elk. By using the sign in a sentence, your baby is also exposed to verbal language and more vocabulary. Awesome!
