Milk – Baby Sign

Watch this baby sign video to see the ASL sign for Milk, plus learn how to teach your baby to sign Milk in Baby Sign Language.

How to Sign Milk

To do the baby sign for milk, have your dominant hand in a loose fist with your thumb side facing up. Squeeze your loose fist open and shut. You can exaggerate this sign for your baby and open your hand more. This will also help you more easily notice when your baby is signing.

Teaching your Baby to Sign Milk

To teach your baby to sign milk, always do the sign while verbally saying the word in a sentence.

Would you like some milk? while offering your baby his or her bottle or right before you breastfeed.

Mmmm. How yummy is your milk? while your baby is drinking a bottle or while you are breastfeeding.

Try to be consistent, so your baby will make the association between the sign and milk. By using the sign in a sentence, your baby is also exposed to verbal language and more vocabulary. Awesome!

Your Baby Signing Milk

Here are a couple ways your baby can use the baby sign for milk.

She can ask you for some milk.

He can tell you where he put his bottle down, or he will better understand you when you ask where he put his milk.
