  • Grocery Shopping with my Baby - Third World Style
    September 5, 2014
With Nolan in the baby carrier I started to cross the street after a couple cars went by and a man, standing up on an old wooden cart pulled by his brown horse, suddenly dashed out behind a delivery truck, cutting us off on the small, quiet street in front of the grocery store. It shocked me. I froze up and looked down at Nolan’s big beautiful eyes. The last thing I expected to go by was a man riding high on his cart and horse. What the what? There are cars and trucks driving here. But maybe it fit. The buildings on the street were either missing walls or were beautiful homes with barbwire lining the high walls guarding them. Trash lined the sides of the street, and a little boy stood outside a house that had no gate to guard it and no door to shut it off...

  • Apartment Hunting Mess in Aracaju, Brazil
    September 26, 2014
Our first two nights in Brazil were at the Radisson Aracaju Hotel. I used 38K Club Carlson points for the two nights. We planned on securing a one month, furnished apartment by the end of our two night stay. It almost worked. We arranged to see four apartments on September 3rd (check out was September 4th). We liked the first place we saw the most. The only thing we didn't like was that the laundry area next to the kitchen had a large opening without a window. Other than that, it was a very nice apartment and only three blocks from the beach! The apartment complex was very nice too. It had a lovely pool area, exercise room, kids play area, and a tennis/volleyball court. We only hesitated because of the open "window" in the laundry room. We were afraid of our little 3 year accidentally falling out. The first place was a...

  • What I Gave Up in 2014
    December 31, 2014
This year was filled with a lot of successes. The YouTube channel I co-own broke 100,000 subscribers. We put everything we own in storage to travel and live abroad, and I haven’t gone crying home yet. I pitched, wrote, and shot a marketing series with Jay P Morgan for photographers and videographers, and it was sponsored by Squarespace. I guest lectured at Brigham Young University on marketing for photographers and videographers. I took care of my mentally ill sister and helped saved her from human trafficking 3 times. I taught the marketing lessons in the Slanted Lens’ Business Coaching Class for photographers and videographers. The acting studio I direct the marketing for was voted top 5 Acting Studio for Kids in Los Angeles. I shot a series of funny baby sign videos with my boys and husband. I made a collection of over 700 baby sign instructional videos. My baby sign Instagram has 1,500 followers. I finished my notanexactscience.com website,...

  • The Bus Missed Us
    January 4, 2015
When our bus was arriving, Darian and Nolan ran behind the bus stop and Hector was counting the change for the fare. If you don’t furiously wave down a bus in Brazil, they will not stop.

  • From Brazil to Portugal with our Kids
    February 6, 2015
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Lisbon, Portugal Living in Brazil and moving to Portugal couldn’t be more different and the same. I was first surprised to see the same savory pastries in the bakery as I did in Brazil. I was surprised to see Christ the Redeemer across the ocean within a 24-hour period. It seriously shocked me. I didn’t know the statue was also here. I was also surprised that some people understood an American trying to speak Brazilian Portuguese in Portugal, which means the people here are really nice like they are in Brazil. They pat my kids’ heads the same way as they walk by. A photo posted by Adelaide Lawren (@laide_e) on Feb 2, 2015 at 12:44pm PST But it’s different here. I saw a man with a foot that was backward. He was dressed nicely, and he was wearing custom-made leather shoes, walking down the street. I also...

Maybe my friendships will always have to span around the world, which I wish was one place like the Internet and was just as fast to travel through as high-speed Internet.

  • Don't Be Afraid to Say, "Goodbye."
    April 5, 2015
Saying, "Goodbye," to Regensburg was more bitter than sweet. I didn't want to leave Regensburg. Our apartment was the opposite of our apartment in Lisbon.
