The “controversial” Moby Wrap
I really wanted to get the Moby Wrap because Darian could be so much closer to me in it than with other wraps. It would make it so much easier to get things done around the house if I could be more hands free as well. He also loves to be held in the same position that the wrap would hold him, but I read some reviews that really worried me. Well, I took the $40 risk and went for it. And I did have a lot of the problems that other people had, but they were really easily solved.
Trouble Shooting
“Loved the product, it felt comcortable especially with baby in it. But about 10 minutes later baby was HOT and so was I. If you or you baby is hot natured then don’t buy.”
In the picture above, I folded the width of the Moby Wrap in half. Darian gets really hot and sweaty on me if it’s not folded in half. We’re both fine when it’s folded though.
“I’m sure people will say that I’m not doing it right, etc. But listen, it’s a friggen baby sling. I don’t want to sit around having to study how to put this thing on and then practicing it until I can do it in an efficient manner. My wife and I gave it about 5 serious attempts at getting it right, and we finally just gave up.”
Before buying the wrap, I watched a couple youtube videos of people putting it on. It became very simple in my mind. When I got the warp, I didn’t even look at the instructions. I put it on and popped Darian in. He seemed like he was going to fall straight out. I looked at the video again and saw that I forgot to pull the “safety” fabric part up to keep him in. haha
“I thought this looked easy and comfortable, but when it arrived it was just a big long piece of fabric. it’s like 15ft long! which is a pain to put on if you’re out in a restaurant or someplace as the fabric touches the floor. “
It is just a big piece of fabric. But that makes it comfy, and exactly what it is. Also, all products have their limitations. It’s really not a carrier to be used outside of the house. When I’m out and about, I use our black carrier that clips and is more like a front back pack. It makes it easier to take my jacket on and off while taking the baby carrier on and off. I also don’t have to worry about anything dragging. But I wouldn’t use our black carrier inside the house because it’s not as comfy and personal. The Moby Wrap is great for carrying curious babies around the house while you show them how to clean and organize.
“Short lifespan. Really only good for a newborn. The book says up to 35 lbs, but I dare you to show me a baby over three months that will put up with having their arms and legs crammed into this thing.”
My 5 month old loves it! He likes facing forward. As I mentioned, I fold the width of the fabric in half, which makes it possible for him to still move his arms. I don’t pull the other fabric over his feet. I just have it over his belly, so he can’t jump out. If he feels like he’s falling forward at all, I just pull him down a bit. Then it’s comfy. The great thing about the Moby is that Darian can’t move his arms all the way forward. This means he can’t grab things out of my hands and make a mess. He can only grab things that I let him grab. Love it.
“Not secure. Even the few times I managed to get my baby in there, I still felt like I needed to keep a hand on her back all the time for security.”
I felt like this the first time I put him in. But I forgot to pull the fabric that goes across his belly (or back, depending on the way he is facing) up so that he was held in tightly. The only way he could fall out is if I bent over so that my head was upside down. When I pick up things off the floor, I just squat, which keeps me in shape!
I love using the Moby Wrap while cleaning. Darian loves to watch and help me clean, so it’s a perfect solution because it’s hard to clean while holding him. We’ve really enjoyed using it around the house, and it’s a fun activity to keep him busy for an hour or two.
