1. Choose a sign that will help you or is interesting to your baby.
2. Use the sign in a sentence before you use or point at what you are talking about.
3. Make eye contact.
4. Be consistent.
5. Look for your baby mimicking your sign in some way.
6. Encourage his or her efforts no matter how small or big.

It depends on the sign. If it’s something very important to your baby, your baby can start signing around 2 months old. Many babies start picking up a lot of signs at 11-14 months. Look for approximations. Your baby may already be signing. If not, you’re both doing great! Keep having fun and wait to be filled with joy when it happens.
