The Lava of Yesterday – Picacho Peak, Arizona
Not so early one morning, Adelaide, Baby Darian, my brother Esteban and I headed south of our sleepy Stanfield town to the beautiful Picacho Peak. No, it is not a natural monument to the international sensation of Pokemon but rather an Arizona state park. Many, many years ago an unknown volcano spud up a mess and made a couple of peaks and small mountains.
With Darian cozy in his baby carrier strapped to my chest, we hiked up the mountain. He enjoyed the hike, peeking occasionally and mostly sleeping.
As we were hiking, I remembered how beautiful the desert is (to visit), and that I definitely need to step up the exercise program (and follow through with it).
Originally, we we planned to make it to the top of the peak, but with the late start we decided to only hike to the “saddle”. It took us about an hour or so to get there and 45 minutes to get back down. It was a wonderful time and the weather was great.
The next time we are in Arizona, we will make it all the way to the top!
